Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace... - United Nations.

Peace prayers, readings, meditation, discussion and sacred music will guide our time together. Attendees are also invited to make a Peace Pledge which we will honor with a simple yet powerful peace ritual. Your pledge, promise or commitment might be dedicating a day to peaceful practices, planting a peace tree, doing spontaneous random acts of kindness, sitting in silent meditation and prayer dedicated to the alleviation of suffering, world peace and harmony.   All welcome.  Strictly no proselytizing.

Hobart: Religions for Peace, TAS - "Honoring the Elements"

"Honoring the Elements - Air"

The April Gathering of Religions for Peace Tasmania Branch will be held on Tuesday 7 April 2015 at 2.00pm at Little Frying Pan Island, Berriedale, a place very special to the Aboriginal people of Tasmania and one that continues to play a special part in the Reconciliation process.

Further to our honouring of the elements during 2014, this time we will honour air, all the more significant since Australia and the Pacific region have experienced many severe cyclones this summer.  We will be led by Kris Schaffer.

Directions: turn on to the slip road that leads to the Hobart bound lane of the Brooker Highway, past Strathaven Nursing Home and the Riverfront Hotel/Motel, turn to the left down Strathaven Drive and continue on past the buildings.  There is plenty of parking space at the back near the river and it is an easy walk on to the peninsula.

This month is a time of great spiritual activity across many faith traditions,   It is a beautiful time to add our personal thoughts of prayer and meditation for personal and world peace.
